  10.           +o _l_p_s_c_h_e_d(1M) (the System V printing daemon) will now
  11.             accept print jobs from _l_p_d(1M) (the BSD printing
  12.             daemon) running on a remote system. A bug in version
  13.             1.3 of Printing Tools prevented this from working with
  14.             lpd clients that sent the data file(s) before the
  15.             control file (see RFC 1179 for information on the lpd
  16.             protocol).  (Many implementations of the BSD printing
  17.             system that run on PCs send the data files first.) This
  18.             bug has been fixed.  NOTE:  _l_p_s_c_h_e_d(1M) will not accept
  19.             print jobs from _l_p_d running on the local system.

  21.           +o Remote printing to BSD printers (on remote computer
  22.             systems running _l_p_d(1m)) is supported from the lp
  23.             spooler starting with version 1.3 of the Printing Tools
  24.             (IRIX 5.3 runs version 1.3 of the Printing Tools; IRIX
  25.             6.2 runs version 1.4).  Remote BSD printers can be
  26.             installed using _p_r_i_n_t_e_r_s(1M), the graphical Printer
  27.             Manager, by typing the host name and remote printer
  28.             name into the "Add Printer" dialog.  Note that printers
  29.             that have a direct connection to the network and which
  30.             support lpd will probably not configure correctly using
  31.             the _p_r_i_n_t_e_r_s(1M) tool.  See the next section _K_n_o_w_n
  32.             _P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s _a_n_d _W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s for details.
